“I wasn’t expecting Justice League reshoots to be as extensive as they were.”

Henry Cavill spoke about Warner Bros.’ “ridiculous” decision to keep Superman out of Justice League’s marketing.

While speaking to Empire Magazine (via Batman-News), Cavill seemed to agree not having the Man of Steel in any of the film’s trailers was strange, especially considering Cavill himself was doing press tours for the movie, which all but confirmed Superman was indeed in Justice League.

However, the actor still believes it was important to leave some story elements out in order to surprise fans.

“Well, that whole concept was faintly ridiculous and I honestly believe everyone viewed it as such,” Cavill said. “Of course, if I’m on the press tour I’m in the movie. Obviously, you knew, and that was a different little tap dance we danced together.

“But for the audience, I wanted to leave some mystery. I think it’s important to have some mystery in movies these days.”

Cavill also briefly touched on Justice League’s poor critical response, saying there are various reasons why audiences didn’t respond to the film and there are valuable lessons to be learned from the entire experience.

The actor commented on his infamous mustache as well, which Cavill couldn’t shave off for Justice League reshoots due to his prior commitment with Mission: Impossible – Fallout. It sounds like Cavill was surprised by just how large the reshoots were for Justice League.

“When we decided to go for the mustache, I certainly wasn’t expecting all the events to unfold as they were going to unfold,” Cavill said. “I wasn’t expecting Justice League reshoots to be as extensive as they were.

“As you will see when [Mission: Impossible – Fallout] comes out, to have a fake mustache on would not have been a possibility.”

You’ll get to see Cavill and his mustache in action when Fallout opens in theaters on July 27. Cavill paid a moving and hilarious tribute to his harry friend earlier this year. Also, find out what Warner Bros. went through to digitally remove the stache for Justice League.
